• studied philosophy, art and biology, degree in biology
• started photography in 1984
• 1991 member of GDT (Gesellschaft Deutscher Tierfotografen, Society of German Nature Photographers)
• 1992-1995 President of GDT
• since 1995 freelance photographer
• stories published in National Geographic, GEO and other international magazines
• books:
  • “Kamchatka” - Eagles bears and volcanoes (1997)
  • “Adlerleben” - American Bald Eagle (1999)
  • “Return of the Emperor” - European bisons in primeval forests of Poland (2004)
  • “Kranich” - European cranes (2007)
• Fritz-Steininger-Award by GDT
• several prizes in BBC-competition and other competitions
• lives in Luenen, Germany
